Abilene, TX – Episcopal Church of Heavenly Rest – Awe, Science, Religion, and Eudaemonia
January 21 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Central Time
Recent research into the experience of awe reveals that awe makes us feel small but also deeply connected. The experience of awe is something all the world’s religions have in common. Awe makes us better people, with greater life happiness, generosity, and purpose (eudaemonia). JD Stillwater’s engaging multimedia presentation allows participants to experience awe as we explore this uniquely human emotion. We’ll explore what’s known about awe’s positive effects on our bodies and minds, how science can help us experience awe, the sibling rivalry between awe and horror, and the use (and mis-use) of awe in education, politics, and war.
