Harmony, NC – Awe: A Spiritual Superhighway for All Faiths

New scientific research on the feeling of awe is… well… awesome! We now know: awe underlies most religious experience; awe makes us feel small but connected, and changes our brains; awe makes us better, more moral people; and that awe is the every-person’s spiritual experience. In this awe-invoking presentation, we’ll explore awe as a path towards a deeper relationship with Ultimate Reality, however we define and describe that. Awe can be a powerful tool in science education, but also in promoting violence, hate, and dogma. We’ll explore the sibling rivalry between awe and horror, and the dark side of awe as a tool of fascism. What science reveals about nature can be a powerful path to awe and spiritual depth.
